Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Week: Chasity Reasons
GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — This week’s Educator of the Week presented by the Tennessee Education Lottery teaches in Medina.
Chasity Reasons works one-on-one with students throughout the day at South Gibson County High School. She says that making sure students know that she cares about them is her priority.
However, it was her life experiences as an adult that led her to a career in education.
“I wanted to be a nurse, and then God kind of changed my path because I had a child with special needs,” Reasons said. “And so that was another part of my journey, just having that personal journey, and I just wanted to be there for all students.”
She is an inclusive education specialist and says her passion for the classroom grew while being an assistant for seven years before getting her degree in special education.
“Every day there’s a funny moment. That’s another thing that keeps us going,” she said. “We have to be relaxed and we have to make sure that each day is fun for our students.”
Reasons believes that every student can learn something no matter what and that sometimes it just takes patience.
“Just having that passion for kids and being an advocate for them, helping them achieve whatever they want to after high school.”
Reasons now will be eligible for the statewide Tennessee Education Lottery Educator of the Month award. Starting in January, to vote for her or any of the other nominees, visit seehowitaddsup.com.
