Bullet Prices Rising
By: Meredith Hill
A sport thousands of West
Tennesseans enjoy is becoming pricier. A local ammunition
supplier says the price of bullets has been steadily increasing
over the past two years, especially this year. "They
practically doubled so I shoot about half as much as I did,"
says Terry Mullins, an avid hunter for nearly 50 years.
Some ammunition suppliers say buying
ammunition in bulk hasn't meant savings for them. One says
its paying 25% more for ammunition now compared to a year ago.
Owners at the Great Outdoor Store in
Jackson say gas prices are mostly to blame but that may not be
the only reason hunting ammunition is becoming pricier.
"What my distributors and
vendors have told me is China is producing a lot more metal so
they're importing a lot more which lowers your surplus which
raises prices on metal."
