Thousands of visitors from across the country toured the
Research and Education Center in Milan for the 25th No-Till
Day. With 19 educational tours, farmers had a chance to learn
more about the no-till process as well as other developments in
agriculture research.
The event was heavily attended by farmers, as well as state
politicians and leaders. Commissioner of Agriculture Ken Givens
said the success and popularity of no-till crop production sets
a standard for new developments in farming.
"It shows you the value of what research does. You couldn't
find much land in West Tennessee that's not no-till now."
No-till crop production is a planting technique in which the
soil is left undisturbed between harvest planting. Supporters
of the process say it helps with soil and fuel conservation.
According to the University of Tennessee, currently almost two
million acres of Tennessee farmland fall in the no-till
category.
