Some
city council members met with
leaders of the Safe Neighborhoods
Task Force Tuesday to make finishing
touches to a proposed animal
ordinance for Jackson, Tuesday.
Some
of the language in the proposal was
changed. Instead of reading, dogs
would have to be "chained" it was
changed to "tethered." Also, the
limit was removed on how many
animals a person can have to allow
as many animals as they want, as
long as they are safe and healthy.
Leaders said the sanitation and
health department would help enforce
the new ordinance.
"They
will cite them and give them 30 days
the way the ordinance reads," said
Vicki Lake, chairman of the Safe
Neighborhoods Task Force. "They will
have 30 days to rectify and then
after the 30 days if they have not,
they can receive a maximum fine of
50 dollars a day or summons to the
environmental court."
The
proposal now heads to a city council
committee, Thursday before being
brought before the full council next
Tuesday.
