Investigators still do not know who gunned down Troy Mitchell, 44, at an apartment complex on Hollywood Drive, Wednesday morning.  That has people who live in the area feel unsafe.

Nancy Saine and many other residents at the Guardian Courts Apartments live in fear. "I slept on the couch. It was a different night for me. I could not even get in the bed. It just scared me so bad," said Saine.

Police said someone gunned down a Mitchell just steps from Saine's home. Though investigators said they do not know who did it, they believe someone else does. "It would make a better society, a better city, if people do step up and let us know what they know," said Jackson Police Chief Larry Price.

One small bit of information could be the piece that solves the puzzle. "Anyone that will call that will give us any kind of clue. We will take it and run with it," said Chief Price.

Several apartments at the complex are vacant, and a number of tenants say they may leave because of the shooting. "It's dangerous. That is why I wish I could move back to the country to my house," said Saine.

Investigators worked the scene around the clock searching for clues, Thursday. Chief Price said, "He has all of his investigators that we can spare out on the street. Visiting and talking to people of interest that we talk to in times like this."

For now, Saine continues to lock her doors and remains on edge. She said, "Well, I do not know what to do because I do not have any guns. How am I going to protect myself?"

If you have any information about Wednesday's shooting it is important to contact the Jackson Police Department at (731) 425-8400 or CrimeStoppers (731) 424-TIPS.
