Students, parents and staff at a
local school learned about gangs and personal safety,
Thursday.
The Jackson Police Department's Gang Unit
made a visit to the West Jackson Learning Center to talk
about the dangers of gangs and involvement with those gangs.
The unit held break out sessions individually with both
students and parents. Officers told parents about
mannerisms, clothing and signs that are common among gang
members.
"I think it is very important that
we come out, educate the parents, let the parents know what's
going on, because it's not a
police issue, it's a society issue," said Investigator Terance
Smith.
If you need information
concerning gangs or would like to schedule a presentation, call the Jackson
Police Department at (731) 425-8400.
