With the end of Daylight Saving Time this weekend, fire departments want you to do more than just set your clocks back an hour, Sunday morning.

Fire safety officials are encouraging home owners to replace the batteries in their smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.  According to national statistics, three children die per day in home fires with 80 percent of those cases occurring in homes without working smoke detectors.

"Working smoke alarms and a practiced escape plan are the most important things you can do to save your life in the event of a fire in your home," said Wayne Arnold, Fire Marshal with the Jackson Fire Department.

If you do not have a smoke alarm in your home, Arnold said the Jackson Fire Department will provide and install one for free. For renters, he adds that landlords are responsible for installing a smoke alarm.

Daylight Saving Time ends at 2:00 a.m., Sunday.
