Students at a north Jackson university took a break from the classroom to thank the community for standing by them during their most trying times.
Wednesday marked the 7th annual
Day of Remembrance, as more than 700 students, faculty and
staff members took part in more than 50 service projects in
the area during the community day. The Day of
Remembrance began as a way for the school to show
appreciation to the people who helped after it was struck by
tornadoes in 2002, but has now grown to include a night most
students will never forget, February 5, 2008.
"I was here (on campus) when the
tornado hit in February, and seen how everybody just came
together and loved on us and did everything they could to
help us," said Sarah Stinson, a Union University Senior.
"It's a great way to give back to them."
The Day of Remembrance this year is also part of the school's Homecoming Week activities.
