A nationwide civil rights
organization is weighing in on the health care reform
debate issue.
The Jackson-Madison
County chapter of the NAACP is joining with state
leaders for the organization is supporting a revision of
the nation's health care system. Leaders gathered in
downtown Jackson, Thursday to announce support, saying
it is a matter of life and death, since in the last
decade 880,000 African-Americans died for lack of health
insurance.
Organizers of the news
conference said in the past 10 years, insurance
companies in some states have raised premiums by more
than 87 percent making it impossible for many Americans
to afford health insurance.
