A nationwide civil rights organization is weighing in on the health care reform debate issue.

The Jackson-Madison County chapter of the NAACP is joining with state leaders for the organization is supporting a revision of the nation's health care system. Leaders gathered in downtown Jackson, Thursday to announce support, saying it is a matter of life and death, since in the last decade 880,000 African-Americans died for lack of health insurance.

Organizers of the news conference said in the past 10 years, insurance companies in some states have raised premiums by more than 87 percent making it impossible for many Americans to afford health insurance.
