The city of
Jackson now has more that 211 police officers after 10 new
officers were sworn in today.
Each of them
took an oath to uphold the law in a special swearing-in
ceremony, Friday morning at the Jackson Police
Department. The new hires were made possible, thanks to a
$1.5 million dollar federal grant. Chief Larry Price said
the grant will completely pay for three of four required
years of service. The newly inducted officers said they have
prepared to work hard to make a difference in the city they
will serve.
"I wanna help
out the community, you know," said newly-sworn officer Eric
Boyd. "There's a lot of problems in the black community, and
I want to help give back."
The officers will go through 34 weeks of training before they hit the streets as patrol officers.
