This week's Tennessee
Education Lottery Educator of the Week award winner is
Barbara Fowler, a teacher at Madison Academic High
School in East Jackson. Pinning down Fowler's exact
title at the school is difficult, because she wears many hats and has
several responsibilities.
For example she teaches journalism to one group of students. "We produce, if I have to say so, the best newspaper in the city," Fowler proclaimed with some clarification. "School newspaper anyway."
For Fowler helping put together the "Galloping Gazette" is not even her chief priority. Fowler is an Honors English II teacher, and her effect on students does not end there. "I think sometimes you find a calling, and I think I found my calling in teaching, because I like young people," Fowler said.
Fowler's love for education and teaching young people has been her motivation to be as involved as she is. In-fact, yet another responsibility she has is as a coach of Madison's renowned Academic Decathlon team.
"I think the kids know that I'm hard, but that I'm fair with them, and I think they leave knowing that their time was well spent," Fowler said.
