While raising five children and
devoting her life to doing Christian missions in Central and
South America with her husband, it is understandable Kathy
Henton did not have time for a career. "When I was in college in
1972 my major was early education, but then I got married, got
my MRS degree," Henton said.
Henton said she has discovered a
new way to serve Christ by teaching Spanish to juniors at
Jackson Christian School. "I felt like I needed to do something
else with my life," Henton said. "I wanted to do something
meaningful, something that served the Lord."
Now, Henton is taking the
language that she mastered while spreading the Gospel in
countries such as Nicaragua and Argentina, and spreading Spanish
to JCS students. Henton acknowledged learning a language is not
the easiest for high school pupils.
"I think it re-wires our brain in
a different way, so it does take students a while to wrap their
minds around the concepts," Henton said. "It's hard for kids,
but they catch on, and it's like a snow ball effect." She said
once they start getting the concepts the knowledge and
confidence to use the language builds.
Henton said she is proud of her
students and is happy that God has given her an opportunity
to have an impact. "It was just a blessing from the Lord, this
is an excellent school and I know it now from the inside,"
Henton said. "It has truly been everything that I'd hoped for as
a second life."
While Henton refers to it as her
second life, she is far from neglecting her first life. Friday
she became a grandmother for the eighth time, and next semester
she is leading a group of JCS students on a special spring break
mission trip to Argentina.
