Downs & Stark Combine for 2-Hitter, Jaxx Win Second in a Row

Brodie Downs celebrated his 29th birthday by pitching seven innings of shutout baseball leading the Diamond Jaxx to a 2-0 win over the Jacksonville Suns.

Downs, a converted reliever, gave up only one hit in his seven innings of work.

In the eighth, former starter Denny Stark came in the game to pitch two more shutout innings.

For the offense, the Jaxx got the scoring underway in the third inning.  Brent Johnson hit a triple to right field and Greg Halman drove him in with single to left.

The Jaxx got their second run in the eighth inning off a Johan Limonta triple.  Limonta was driven in by DH Mike Wilson.

The two teams meet for the final time in the 2008 season on Sunday afternoon at 4:35 p.m. Left-hander Ryan Ketchner (7-5 4.22) gets the start for the Diamond Jaxx against Jacksonville's Jesus Castillo (6-4 2.99).
