Injured.

That is a word the Humboldt Vikings have heard too much this year, as junior running back Quan Campbell and senior defensive back K.J. Montague, among others, have missed time.

But that has not stopped the Vikings, who are 4-3 in 2009 and sit atop District 14-A.

With Campbell and Montague healthy and senior Darren Dunbar at quarterback, Humboldt brings an impressive array of athletes to the field. But do not tell head coach Dan Bland athleticism is the only reason for Humboldt's success.  "I think here in Humboldt, we're talked about being very athletic, and it almost gets to the point where people think we won't have to work," Bland said. "That's not the case."

Dunbar makes things even simpler.  "We're competitive," he said. "We don't like losing."

The Vikings travel to Union City to take on the Golden Tornadoes in a tough district match-up.
