One word describes the
difference between last
year's 2-8 North Side
Indians football team, and
this year's 6-3,
playoff-bound squad:
Change.
"We don't have any
individuals on the team,"
said senior linebacker
Clayton Smith. "We want to
win. We're not ready for the
season to be over, like last
year."
The team started off hot,
getting out to 4-0 before
going down to Brighton.
Senior defensive back Cord
Lyons credits that start to
turning the team around.
"That first game, when we
played Ripley, and then it
just continued," Lyons said.
"We went 4-0, and that's
when I knew it was the start
of something good."
Despite a
regular-season-ending loss
to Hardin County, North Side
managed to grab a number
four seed in Class 5A, and a
home game in the first round
against Mitchell out of
Memphis.
"It's big for the kids,"
said head coach Tab Vowell.
"I was just hoping to
goodness that we'd get a
home playoff game for these
seniors to let them have the
chance to experience that."
Round One of the playoffs
for the Indians kicks off at
7:00 p.m. Nov. 6.
